ECU tuning, also known as chipping, mapping, or remapping, its a popular term that is often thrown around by car enthusiasts, mechanics, and anyone who may be looking to modify or upgrade their vehicle. This may come as a scary and a very complicating term, however, it’s actually a fairly simple upgrade that can be done to almost any vehicle on our roads today. With loads of benefits, an ECU tune may be the cheaper, easier, and most effective way you may be looking for to get the most out of your vehicle.

What Is ECU Tuning?

Firstly, let’s break it down. ECU stands for Engine Control Unit. As the name suggests, the ECU controls what the engine does. Think of it as the computer, brain, or the mastermind of the engine. When you put your foot down on the gas pedal, the ECU decides how much air and fuel to mix, injects it into the cylinder, and then ignites it (On a petrol car).

Depending on if your car is petrol, diesel, or electric, the ECU will communicate your driving inputs to the vehicles’ power unit, be it an engine or an electric battery. It uses sensors placed around in the engine and engine bay, to make quick calculations to give you the optimal performance and reliability for your vehicle on the road.
